
Stingray Fish – Torake worth 1.25 lakhs: Fishermen express happiness

A huge stingrayfish of landed in the nets and fishermen were filled with joy. Tenka Ermal Pandarinath Kairampani, who was fishing at Mulur beach, Kapu in Udupi District caught this huge Stingray. As per the locals a total of 41 fishes were caught on Friday and Saturday. The total weight of the catch is said to be 1600 kgs.
Based on the information shared, there are two species Stingray Fish (locally called as Torake). They are ‘Pili Torake’ and ‘Poiya Torake’ . In the local market, they fetch ₹.70 and ₹.130 respectively. In two days, about 1200 kg of Pili and 400 kg of Poyya species were caught. These were sold at 1.25 lakhs approximately.
